The Big Climb approaches
Well tomorrow is the first of March. That means The Big Climb is looming. For those who don’t know, The Big Climb is an event that takes place every year in Seattle. Over 6,000 people climb 1,311 steps to the top of the Columbia Business Center–the tallest building in Washington State.
The event is put on by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to raise money for leukemia research. Last year they collected over $3 million bucks.
This will be my 5th year. There’s one big difference for me from previous years though… I haven’t been exercising.
Yeah, pretty dumb. I can see the news now: “Man found dead after attempting to climb the stairs of the Columbia Business Center. He only made it to the second floor. Film at eleven.”
My son, a firefighter, is climbing with me so maybe he’ll carry me to the top. Oh, and my wife is going this year too. She, being much wisher than I, has been exercising regularly to prepare. So she’ll survive. Maybe she should start shopping for a new husband just in case I don’t make it.
Anyway, I’m looking for sponsors to help me raise moolah for the climb. If you want to donate just click the red button at the top right of this page then you’ll be transfered to another page. Be sure to click the orange button on that page not the red. If you are reading this in the off-season you won’t see a donate button but if it’s up that means I’m doing a climb. I hope to continue it for many years.
By the way, if you have donated to previous climbs of mine please don’t feel obligated to do so again. It’s great if you want to, I just don’t want anyone to spend money they don’t have–even for a good cause.
Well, wish me luck. The climb happens March 24th this year (2019). My time slot is 2:00pm. So whether you’re at work or lounging on your couch watching Netflix during that hour, think of me. I’ll be huffing and puffing my way to the top.
Good Luck!!! I know you can do it….
Hi Sheila,
Thank you so much for the sponsorship donation. You’ve done this every year for a while now. I hope you never feel obligated in any way to continue just because we’re family. I do, however, really appreciate the support for the climb. I’ve not taken care of myself too well this year (a.k.a. Been too lazy to exercise!). But I’ll be doing a post to let you know if I made it to the top! Thanks again.
