Time to get with it!

Walking for exercise

Okay. It’s confession time… I haven’t been taking care of myself.

Almost a year ago I was walking 3 miles, 3 days a week. I even did 4 days on occasion. I was feeling great, sleeping better, and generally happy with my commitment.

But somehow, for no explainable reason, I quit exercising. I’ve been sitting on my butt and letting other less important tasks take me away from my goals.

I mean, it’s well known that exercise is the main way people stay healthy and mobile. And, although exercise won’t cure leukemia, it does help strengthen the immune system and I definitely need to do that!

I’m 71 now. My joints are soar, I can’t sleep, I’m unmotivated, and I have stopped writing much – doing only the bare minimum.

What’s the deal?

Do you have the same issue – starting and stopping?

My son and son-in-law both accomplish their goals. They make a plan and they stick to it. My son has a hectic schedule what with his firefighter job, working on his house, and still making it to his kid’s games/plays. My son-in-law runs a successful business with 6 employees, makes time with his family and… exercises regularly.

I don’t know if it’s my ADD or what, but I have to get with it and stick with it.

I recently learned about a 92 year old man who runs marathons and looks more like 60 than his actual age.

Luke might not let me live to see 92, but if I don’t get back to exercizing, the years I do have might become less mobile. I’m talking quality of life here.

So… it’s time to get back in it. Right now as I write this it is 5:30 in the morning. (Not sleeping is another side effect of poor exercise.) So later on today I’m starting my walking routine again. No more putting it off. I’m a great one for saying to myself “Oh, I’ll do that tomorrow.”

I don’t have time to put things off anymore.
