What was I thinking?!
I’ve discovered something. It’s stupid that I hadn’t paid attention to this sooner. My energy levels, which are affected by my leukemia, are very much tied to how much sleep I get. Before Leuk found me I was pretty much able to weather a lack of sleep–at least I could function if I had a few sleepless nights or stayed up too late watching the boob-tube.
Of course everyone experiences lower energy from lack of sleep, but I think my leukemia makes me even more susceptible to the effects of restless nights and early mornings. Recently I had to get up early three days in a row which would have been fine if this idiot hadn’t also stayed up late each night before.
During that time I went to bed around midnight and got up at seven. Most regular people could do fine with that but by the third day I could barely function.
The rest of the week, however, I went to bed earlier and slept until 9am. I felt great.
Duh. Hey dummy you’ve got leukemia and besides that you’re not young anymore.
So, my great discovery? I need a proper nights sleep–maybe even an hour or two more than I did before Leuk moved in.
